Traditions and beliefs.


Seppuku is a ritual suicide and considered as an honorable death. Seppuku means stomach-cutting. Seppuku was also a part of Bushido. The samurai creed was a guideline for the samurai. The creed was a set of rules to live by and you must obey them. The seven principles of the samurai was also another tradition. The three religions practiced by these warriors were Shintoism, Confucianism, and a form of Buddhism called Zen. Each of these had a separate role.


The seven Principles of the samurai:


1. The right decision, taken with equanimity, the right attitude, the truth. When we must die, we must die. Rectitude.

2. Bravery tinged with heroism.

3. Universal love, benevolence toward mankind; compassion.

4. Right action-a most essential quality, courtesy.

5. Utter sincerity; truthfulness.

ó. Honor and glory.

7. Devotion, loyalty.
